Hello there, thanks for stopping by!
You’ve arrived to the Emmett Drueding digital liner-notes extravaganza; a one of a kind internet experience from the guy who brought you this website.
Below you will find an introduction to the story of how this self-titled album came about.
After that, you’ll find a series of links. These links will lead to a particular track of choice, where I will provide some insight the song and how it was recorded.
Think of this as the memoir you never asked for but are in total need of.
Enjoy exploring the rants and musings of a self involved songwriter!
In January of 2021, somewhere between a dirty martini and the capital insurrection, I was invited into a facebook group entitled “Song This Week (Private).”
The purpose: to write a song, weekly, based off of a prompt selected from submissions by the group’s members.
2020, as you’ll recall, was a year marred by a world-wide pandemic and a myriad of momentous events in the U.S.
In my own life, I had lost a close friend to suicide and another to a sudden stroke.
There was eye fatigue from Zooming, aching livers from binge drinking, and general anxiety of not knowing when or if life could resume as we had known it.
Musically, I was at a standstill.
In 2019, I had released my first full length solo studio album Tightrope Walker; a fine album--but I wasn’t so sure of it.
It wasn’t the studio, or the producers, or anything like that; the issue was me.
I struggled to relate a vision. I said “yes,” too much. I ignored my instincts. By the end I was asking “is this good, or bad?”
So, going into 2021, I wasn’t sure how to move forward as a songwriter.
I had no songs in the chamber.
So when I received the invite to join “Song This Week (Private),” I knew the accountability might benefit my situation .
What came out of the exercise was an album, Emmett Drueding, written and recorded, in totality, within ten weeks.
To me, it is my first record in which I executed a “vision” successfully.
The sequential order of the tracks reflect the order in which they were recorded.
The purpose of this writing is to provide insight to listeners on how this album was made and relate to their respective prompts provided by the songwriting group.
I hope you enjoy these brief anecdotes and that they deepen your connection with this album or inspire you to try new avenues of exploring your own creativity.
